Paolo Petrocelli, Head of Dubai Opera, the leading performing arts center in the United Arab Emirates, has been awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic at just 40 years old. This prestigious honor, one of the highest distinctions bestowed by the Italian state, recognizes his outstanding contributions to culture, the arts, and international cooperation.

The title was conferred by the President of the Italian Republic in recognition of Petrocelli’s exceptional efforts in promoting culture and the arts globally, strengthening the dialogue between artistic and musical institutions in Italy, Europe, and the Middle East. With an international career built on a passionate and unwavering commitment to cultural management and diplomacy, Paolo Petrocelli has played a key role in positioning Dubai Opera as a leading hub for the performing arts, fostering local talent, and promoting world-class international collaborations.

Under his leadership, several major Italian national institutions have made their debut at Dubai Opera in the past two years, including the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Ballet of Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

The Ambassador of Italy to the United Arab Emirates, Lorenzo Fanara, commented on the honor: “I am delighted by this recognition from the Italian Republic bestowed upon the Head of Dubai Opera, Paolo Petrocelli.
