Petrocelli is a Yale University Visiting Fellow and a Visiting Researcher at MIT Media Lab, the interdisciplinary research laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Massachusetts).

 Petrocelli got a  Ph.D.  in Economics, Marketing and Creativity at the  IULM University  of Milan.

To help shape the next generation, Petrocelli lectures management and international cultural relations at leading universities, including: New York University, Université Paris Sorbonne, Accademia Teatro alla Scala, American University Sharjah (United Arab Emirates), Hanoi University and Ho Chi Min University (Vietnam), European School of Economics, Alma Mater Università Bologna, LUMSA, Sole 24 Ore Business School, IED Roma.

He specialized in the study of European music in the Twentieth Century. Today, he is considered a leading representative of the new generation of scholars of Twentieth Century British music. 

He published several essays and two books on the music of Sir William Walton.
